Laag Dalemseweg 3 (2014)

Transect conducted an archaeological preliminary investigation in August 2014 at Laag Dalemseweg 3 in a plan area. The reason for the investigation was the application for an environmental permit in the context of the planned demolition and new construction of the agricultural buildings on the property.

The plan area falls within the zoning plan Buitengebied, and has been given the value Archeology high PM1. For developments larger than 250 m² and where the soil is disturbed deeper than 30 cm –Mv, archaeological preliminary research had to take place.

Conclusion

• Based on the results of the desk research, there was a high expectation of finding archaeological remains from the late prehistory to the late Middle Ages. Based on the geomorphological map, the plan area is located in a basin area. This was found during the drilling research. Based on the field research, it was determined that the plan area has always been located in the flood plain of a river. A humus vegetation horizon that could indicate permanent vegetation is missing, as is decalcification of the clay (by leaching).
• Based on historical maps it has been established that the plan area has probably always been undeveloped. The oldest consulted map material of the plan area dates from the end of the 18^de century shows arable and pasture land on the site of the plan area. No buildings are indicated on younger maps either, which is why there is a low expectation of finding archaeological (settlement) remains for the Modern period. The oldest known buildings are those of the current farm.
• Based on the results of the drilling research, a low expectation of finding archaeological values ​​could be assigned to the plan area. The area is located in a basin area, where the soft clay did not provide good possibilities for habitation.

Advice

Based on the results of the field research, there were no objections to the proposed new construction in the plan area from an archaeological point of view. As a result, no additional measures had to be taken for the benefit of the archaeological monument care (AMZ).
