GORINCHEM – The recently excavated Jewish ritual bath at the Nursery Street will be preserved for the city of Gorinchem. The municipality and project developer ING Vastgoed will cover the costs for the relocation of the purification bath. The ritual bath will be moved to the current plot and covered with sand again. This will prevent it from being damaged during the housing construction that will start soon.
It is still unclear how big the financial burden will be. That depends on the condition of the bath, among other things. The intention is that the presence of the bath (...) will be brought forward in the new construction in one way or another. This can be done, for example, by making the contours visible by using different tiles.
The Jewish synagogue was located on the Nursery StreetIn the fifties it was demolished. The ritual had, which was uncovered by the municipal Archaeology Working Group during excavations, was the only thing that remained.
