Haarweg 127 (2012)

In April 2012, on behalf of Van den Heuvel Development & Management BV by Hollandia archaeologists an archaeological desk and drilling investigation carried out at Haarweg 127. 

After the two-hundred-year-old farm on Haarweg 2011 burned down in December 127, the site lay fallow. The plot is being divided into three building plots for free construction. Three homes will then be built on the site. The construction of these homes may disturb any archaeological remains that may be present.

The desk research showed that the plan area has a high expectation for archaeological remains from the late Iron Age. In addition, a farm from the modern period, but possibly earlier, appeared to have stood in the plan area. The drilling research showed that an intact soil profile is present within the plan area. The natural soil consisted of deposits belonging to the Spijk stream belt. An anthropogenic package in which archaeological indicators were found was located on the natural soil. These indicators suggested that remains from the modern period and possibly older were present within the plan area.

Trial trench survey

Based on the archaeological research, it was advised that an archaeological test trench investigation should be carried out prior to the work. Points of attention for the test trench investigation should be the presence of older (construction) phases of the farm and associated yard structures such as barns, water and/or cesspits and the possibility of prehistoric habitation on the riverbank, as found in two drillings. In addition to the riverbank, the gully is also important for the possibility of prehistoric habitation.
