Tuesday June 2nd started Hollandia Archaeologists an excavation on the Bagijnenwal plan area. The archaeological research is being carried out on behalf of project developer From Wines and precedes the construction of 26 homes in the 'Helden van Gorkum'. The research is expected to take three weeks.
The medieval city wall at Bagijnenwalstraat (2019)
Based on previous preliminary research in 2008, 2011, 2012 and 2019, the archaeological expectations for this area are high. For example, during the trial trench research last year, part of the medieval fortress wall was investigated. By adjusting the pile plan of the new building, this wall can be spared. The current research now focuses on the other finds, such as part of a quay wall, remains of a tannery and the former plague house.
