Summary:
St. Clara House in Gorinchem underwent a transformation from an orphanage and poorhouse to a modern retirement home. In 1966, it moved from Molenstraat to a new building on Wijnkoperstraat, designed for 52 residents. This transition brought more privacy with their own rooms, but some missed the city center. Over the years, the need for care increased and staffing levels changed. Outings were adapted, and spiritual care evolved. In 1980, renovations and expansion to 60 places followed. During the renovation, residents stayed in temporary housing. The renovated St. Clara House offered a home to the elderly, with respect for their independence and well-being.
