The diary covers nine years (late 1806–early 1816). As a patrician and timber merchant, Snoeck meticulously recorded weather observations, trips to timber auctions, and daily private affairs, but he avoided political or official details—he left those "within the town hall." His diary therefore offers no new insight into city government, but it does provide a vivid picture of everyday life, business dealings, and local events in Gorinchem around 1800. Unfortunately, the surviving portion may be only a fragment; no earlier or later parts have survived.
