Asphalt plant Zuiderlingedijk 9

In connection with the plans to (re)establish an asphalt plant on the existing industrial estate HWZ of Heuff Beheer-Spijk at Zuiderlingedijk 9, a revision of the zoning plan was necessary. A so-called draft plan was drawn up as a basis for this revision. For the purpose of this draft plan, Arcadis a desk study was conducted.

The research carried out had to provide early insight into the possible consequences of the implementation of the plans on the existing soil archive. In the draft zoning plan Buitengebied Gorinchem, Gorinchem is divided into five archaeological areas. The plan area was located in the Linge sub-area, where the archaeological expectation value is very high and also of high historical landscape value in view of the river Linge. The desk research carried out by Arcadis shows that the zone in which the Heuff site is located has been designated as an area with a high probability of encountering archaeological values ​​from Roman times. The eastern bank of the Linge, on which the asphalt plant is located, is considered a historical landscape line of high value. However, no observations and reports of finds are known for the plan area. Archaeological indicators of observations outside the plan area are located at 0.60 - 0.80m -mv.

Selection advice

Based on this desk research, the following advice could be given: The location is in an area with a high archaeological expectation. In order to determine the high archaeological probability, an exploratory drilling survey had to be carried out in accordance with the requirements of the municipality of Gorinchem. Since the municipality required a minimum of 10 drillings per hectare, and the site covered approximately 3 hectares, this involved 30 drillings. This advice could still be adjusted based on the results of the environmental drillings. These later drillings showed that there were no archaeological indicators within the plan area.
