Production waste of beads for rosaries (ca. 1400-1500)

Description

Production waste of rosary beads. From these strips of bone material, sawn from the metatarsal bone (metatarsus) of a cow, beads are drilled for making rosaries.

The waste came during an excavation on the Barracks Square (1997) emerged from a filled-in ditch with waste from the 15de century. This indicates that during this period a so-called 'fifty-maker' who was active rosaries produced. Similar finds are known from 's-Hertogenbosch, among other places.
