Cup with carved bands and gilded rosettes, glass, ca. 1575-1625.

Description

A richly decorated glass drinking cup. The rosette decoration contains blue cobalt oxide and remains of gold leaf. This cup was found in the waste pit of the home of the rector of the Grote School, during the excavation of the Hof van de lords of Arkel and the Great School at the Chalk Street (2002).

Description:The cup curves slightly at the top. The bottom is convex and finished with a notched blue foot band. Around the wall are three notched bands, between which are gilded rosettes with turquoise blue around the edge and in the center, type gl-bek-34a
